Description | White painted IV dipper. Hard well-fired light yellow clay with light red-orange areas. Thin matt white slip; dark brown paint on upper part, dark red on lower. Round base, ovoid body, narrow plain vertical rim; horizontal handle, narrow oval insection, rising vertically from upper body; three narrow vertical lugs below rim. Decoration: horizontal bands consisting of two wavy lines, a double zigzag, and joined hatched triangles; divided by a group of three vertical lines continuous from under handle, across base, and up the other side to rim, crossed on base by another group of three lines to form a four-spoked wheel motif, a double concentric circle in each space; horizontal wavy line on interior rim; groups of transverse lines either side of handle. |
