Sommerville: Sardonyx. A Wounded Gladiator. Gold and Silver Rings - Cameos, Case OOO.

Vermeule: Sardonyx. Cameo. (Modern gold ring setting) An elderly warrior, dying or resting. His shield behind his head, his cuirass at his feet. A mythological scene? (Death of Ajax) cf. 1815 for similar composition. 19th century.
