Description

Bronze cup. Oval in section with a high foot. The body is widest just above foot and recurved to an outturned rim. There is a Chinese character in the bottom interior. There are pseudomorphs after silk in certain areas of the cup: the neck, the lower sections, and the shoulders. A fabric pattern is not identifiable but paired fiber yarn shapes are evident.

The inscription is fully legible in x-ray but indecipherable to the naked eye:

戈 Halberd [lineage emblem]

父乙 Father Day 2 [posthumous day name of dedicatee]

Credit Line Gift of Albert P. Knight, 1961
