Description | Shoulder lekythos, restored from many fragments. Section of wall missing in back. Disk foot, glazed on top only. Lower wall glazed. Above it two wheel-run purple lines, upper of which is ground line for scene. Scene: Hermes at right, proceeding, r. hand outstretched to right, followed by 3 female figures. The central figure holds an object which may be a helmet: Athena?. Probably this scene is referring to the Judgement of Paris, Hermes leading Hera, Athena and Aphrodite to Paris on Mt. Ida. At base of neck, short verical lines, and below, on shoulder, lotus bud pattern. Neck reserved. Lip, outside and inside, and outer surface of handle glazed. Various pencilled noted on bottom: "500 before Christ", "From Athens", and others illegible. |
