Description | Tuna-type Hodi, fishing boat with oar and mast. Boat model of solid teakwood, from the Dangs forest of South Gujarat. Bottom of boat is white accented with red strip. There is a blue painted strip around the top of the boat. The upper insides and outsides of the deck are painted white. Two part mast is secured with yellow nylon cord with small black weights. The boat is equpped with a small anchor and oar and has a moveable rudder which is broken into two pieces. This is a model of a tuna type hodi, a Kutch fishing vessel 30 feet long and 8 feet wide, and able to carry up to 4-5 tons. Although this vessel is built on the Gulf of Kutch at the part of Tuna, it is seen throughout the Gulf of Kutch under a different name. For example, in Surbari, at the eastern end of the gulf they are called Pakke-ji hodi or Pathan wari. They are used for deep water fishing. |
