Description | Embroidered in bands and with scattered figures. Two bands extending vertically down from the neck for 15" appearing as a stenciled design. The upper part of poncho in triangular form front and back has been covered with something sewed to it. This textile appears to be a poncho. There is only one seam that connects the textile and it runs down the center. There are embroidered figures on both recto and verso. Only on one side are there two painted (dyed) bands starting from the neck area. Along the shoulders and partially down the center seam, there are bands of hand-embroidered "double helix" type embroidery. This embroidery was obviously done after the embroidery of the small figures since the helix sometimes appears on top of the figures. There is evidence of another textile attaching to the upper part of this poncho. There is a strong line of discoloration (fading) and remnants of threads following this line. This piece might be affiliated with another textile in the collection # 29753. Color(s): Plain weave is a pink cotton. Embroidered figures are in a medium red pink and brown. The painted figure is in a reddish dye. . |
