Description | Carved bentwood dish or bowl with convex sides depicting bears on both short sides (Vicki Cummings, 2013 p. 126). The bear's faces are identical and done in high relief with the tongues hanging from the mouths and paws on either side. The long sides are carved in low relief with formline designs. The rims above the short sides bow upward while the rims above the long sides are straight and flat. The walls of the bowl are made from a single piece of wood that is bent into a rectangular shape. The entire bowl is coated in a dark finish which has worn significantly over many of the surfaces. One corner is stitched together and the base is similarly attached with stitching. |
