Description

Very large oval of hairy hide curved laterally. It is deeply slit diagonally at each side, the inner end of the slit being at the level of the grip, which is slightly below the centre. The grip is a wide strap passed under a square of hide and having the ends stitched together. This square is attached to the shield by ornamental stitching of thongs; from each side of it two thongs whipped with narrower thong run to the inner end of each diagonal slit. To the edge of each of the wings formed above the centre by the slits is attached a piece of hide lighter in weight and colous that the hide of the shield itself.
