Description | Sommerville: A paste of antique red jasper. Jupiter Tonans, seated, holding in his hand an effigy of the youthful bacchus, his favorite bird at his feet. An exquisitely fine intaglio; also beautiful color and iridescence. Antique Pastes, Case YYY. Vermeule: Glass paste, imitating Jasper. Intaglio. (Unmounted) Zeus seated to left, on high backed throne. He holds a small hike in his extended right hand. His eagle appears in front of him at his feet. Graeco-Roman, the design copying the representations of Jupiter Capitolinus on coins of the Roman Empire. |
