Description

Small, Fragmentary

Narrow-necked jar/bottle (aríbalo, aryballos) with an ovate body, missing neck, missing rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a conical (aribaloid) base. The vessel has a protruding stylized animal head on the shoulder. The vessel is painted red with white around the shoulder where it joins the neck. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2267b."
