Description

Black cotton velvet appliqued wall hanging (kalaga) with pieces woven with metal thread and pieces of dyed wool. Appliques are outlined with silver and silver-gilt wrapped threads couched with cotton thread. Metal sequins also applied with cotton thread. The border is made up of birds while the central image appears to be a narrative of some kind, possibly a jataka tale based on the previous lives of the Buddha or a scene from the Ramayana.
