Description | For the greater part of its length the iron blade is straight-sided, curving only towards the point; near the base, two wide notches form a pair of barbs (bilateral) directed alsmost horizontally outwards. See Jenks, The Bontoc Igorot, pl. C1 and p. 128 (kayyan). The upper part of the wooden shaft in which the tang is inserted is enclosed in an iron ring tube, behind which are five plaited rings of plant cuticles. The butt is inserted in a conical iron ferrule. See also the spears 29-58-87, 88, and 89. |
