Description | Fragmentary light poncho. Brown with appliqued tapestry figures in two rows: one across chest and one at border. Also 16 tapestry figures (passamenterie-like) appliqued to crepe and connected by fringed tapestry border. 14 fragments. A loosely woven brown crepe ground that had multiple applied tapestry figures. Additionally attached was a long narrow tapestry hem with fringe. The brown crepe ground appears to be cotton. The weft of the tapestry element is most likely wool. The catalogue records identifies this as a "poncho". Was not measured during IMLS survey due to number of pieces (14). Update 4/3/2012: another large fragment/piece of this textile found separated from the above group. Has since been wrapped in textile and located with the above mentioned fragments. Color(s): Brown loose weave crepe ground with applied tapestry figures in blue, red, brown, yellow and white. |
