Description | Flat, wooden Katsina cradle doll. The face is bisected vertically into halves painted red and green. The back of the head has corn stalks painted and feathers attached. An elaborate, tableta headdress is attached to the head painted black, green, blue and red. The headdress has corn, flower and rainbow imagery. The body is painted brown and white. This figure is the Sio Hemis (or Sio Humis) Katsina, borrowed from the Zuni. (Colton, H. 1959 #155, Wright, B., 1973 #216) |
