Description | Etrusco-Corinthian ring vase; decorated with painted bands, rosettes, incised lozenges, etc.; intact. Aryballos-ring type: circular; footless; outer edges rounded with upper and lower sides flattish; neck smooth with thick perpendicular lip; circular rim with small mouth; single thick strap handle attahced at rounded edge near neck. Cream clay, fine texture. Intact. Decoration: painted brown, added red. Single wide brown band on upper and lower sides. Frieze of brown rosettes and blob filling ornaments on outer edges. Added red paint on alternate petals of rosettes. Band of brown dots on lip. Brown rays on rim. Outer surface of handle brown. Incision used to form lozenge pattern on upper and lower wide brown bands to delineate rosette petals in frieze on outer edge and to decorate the shapeless filling ornaments. |
