Description | Globular. With neck and flat handle missing painted on the shoulder with black diamonds with five white circles. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, missing neck, missing rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with an orange background around the shoulder and red parallelograms/diamonds outlined in black with white dots at the interior. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. There are lines at the interior of the vessel where the parts of the body were joined (3 sections: base, middle, and shoulder). The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1638." |
