Vessel Fragment

Neck of Vessel. Large, red, with painted faces such as found in no previous excavation

Narrow-necked jar/bottle neck fragment with an unknown body, flaring/effigy-anthropomorphic neck, flanged rim, unknown handles on the vessel, and an unknown base. There is a modeled and painted effigy face on the neck with protruding nose, ears, and chin. The face is painted white, red, and black. The vessel appears to have been finished by scraping and smoothing with a rotative movement. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written in black ink. Black ink on the interior of neck reads: "848."
