Description | Red Ware; two vertical loop handles; flaring lip with engraved border Wide mouthed vessel with a flaring body, flaring collar, missing rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel has an incised and punctate geometric design in the flaring collar. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes residues/staining on the exterior. The catalogue number is written on the interior of the vessel and black ink on the interior of vessel reads: "1640." |
