Description | Heavy, flat, tribulated mouth, decorations three zones, brown. Pinkish cream clay, fine texture, slip noted in description. Shape: short foot with bevelled edge and flat bottom. Base shapely falred to markedly spherical shape. Groove at base of neck. Neck thick and conical. Rim trilobated. Tall, arching single strap handle attached upper shoulder. Decoration: design paint dark brown with purple and white paint added. Foot and base brown. Narrow brown band at lower belly. Belly frieze brown ground with narrow stripes of purple and white on upper and lower margins. Shoulderreserved with 4 groups of pendant brown stripes as decoration. Neck brown with wavy line of superimposed white (hardly visible) along base. Outer surface of lip reserved inner surface covered with coating of fine buff clay. Handle painted with three groups horizontal brown stripes (three stripes per group). Incision used to decorate main belly frieze; pendant double overlapping semi-circles. Intact. Surface rubbed. |
