Description | Three dimensional puppet with wooden torso, wooden head, wooden arms, articulated at shoulder and elbows, cotton skirt from waist down. Puppet is held and operated by a wooden stick which passes through a hole in the torso and into the base of the head and by sticks attached to the hands. Face white, rest of skin gold. Narrow eyes, straight nose. Black hairdo curving to top of head, with gold ear ornaments. Altogether much gold, with spirals, in hairdress. Head bowed. Small purple disc with two strings of glass beads at left brow. No arm ornaments, wrists flexed. Long red velvet chest cover with narrow gold braid around edges. Black silk sash with pink and blue brocase flowers. batik skirt; white with narrow diagonal patterned stripes. Faded in sports and mended with three patches in front. Character is Arjuna, one of the Pandawa. |
