Description | 1 Handle; Black; Figure. Flat bottom, bottle necked, one vertical loop handle shoulder to neck, with face on neck and figure engraved. Arms in relief with hand to mouth, one arm broken off Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with an ovate body, effigy-anthropomorphic neck, flattened rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. Molded head with eyes, ears, and nose, with There is a modeled arms with hands held to the mouth. Incised geometric designs on the body, representing a tunic. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. The incised decoration on the body represents the pattern on a tunic. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3100." |
