Description | Cephlomorphic wooden peg fetish; front of face is diamond shape; flat face;oblong shaped eyes; triangular shaped nose; small rectangular mouth; five vertical slits carved on top of the head and eight vertical lines in back; small knob protrudes from center of head; long narrow neck; body of piece is cylindrical, tapering toward rounded base; smooth surface. A grey feather, measuring 8cm in length, was found with the object. Probably used as doll. Carried by a hunter. Among some people of this region exceptional prowess in hunting and war is marked by wearing a feather in the hair or cap. Hunting parties-all the men of the village-are organized by the chief. A drive is started by setting fire to the grass. The hunter who first wounds and animal receives the head. If this is an elephant, one tusk goes to the chief. The rest of the game is share among the hunters. |
