Description | body globular with flattened base; neck cylindrical. With a face on neck and painted animal faces on upper body. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, no handles, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled face on the neck with ear, eyes, nose, and mouth. There are incised lines on the mouth and cheeks. The face is painted delineating the feature sin black and red. The upper section of the body is painted roughly with double sided animal heads in black, white, and orange. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1103." |
