Bottom of boat is painted white with red continuous strip. There is a blue strip around the top of the boat, and the outsides around the top of the deck are painted white. The top of the insides are painted green. The two part mast is secured with yellow nylon cord with small black weights. The boat is equipped with an anchor and a fixed rudder which is broken at the top into several small pieces. It is loosely mounted on a flat stand. They can either have a transom or pointed stern. The macchua is a non-mechanized vessel using a sail. They are also used as life boats on larger country craft ( large sailing vessels similar to the kotia). The macchua is found throughout the Gulf of Kutch.
