Description | Shawl (sandang). A kind of shawl worn only by married women. Worn over the left shoulder like other shawls, but knotted to indicate that the wearer is married. Red and yellow checkered pattern with plain red at edges. Scattered gold embroidered diamonds in center. Two bands of woven gold design with multi-colored embroidery with band of gold embroidery in between both ends. Gold lace fringe. Shawl used by old married women. Locally called a sandang bugis. Worn on left shoulder and with a knot at the shoulder (indicating that women is "knotted" or married); this style is called buhul sentak. Worn on special occasions. |
