Description

Black fruit-shaped bottle with cylindrical neck, one loop handle body to neck, small figure of animal for handle, head of animal missing

Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an effigy-fruit shaped body, hyperboloid neck, flanged rim, 1 effigy-zoomorphic handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The body of the vessel is in the form of a fruit and has a modeled handle in the shape of a standing animal with a long tail, feet, arms, and long body. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. The modeled animal handle is missing the head along a join in the clay, indicating that it was made by adding the body parts individually. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3305."
