Description | Rather hard, dark wood. Hour-glass shape, head is covered with iguana skin (probably), which may have been coated with dark paint or gum. Handle is almost full length of drum; carved to represent a stylized human figure and an animal (?) body below. Bodies in full relief with lower limbs and face part of drum. Shallow carving on figures accented with white (lime) or red (burnt earth) paint. Braided fiber tassels attached through holes at wrists and ankles. |
