Description

Sommerville: Egyptian Jasper. A curious Byzantine intaglio of Christ Crowned with Thorns, sixth century A.D. Byzantine, Case II.

Vermeule: Egyptian Jasper. Intaglio. (Modern Gold Pendant Setting). Christ crowned with thorns; half-figure bust. Right hand raised in benediction. Setting enriched with fish right and left; palm below. Termed by Sommerville "A curious Byzantine intaglio". Perhaps 18th or 19th Century.
