Description | Pottery. Closed vessel with swollen neck topped by a bird; arched bridge handle to cylindrical neck of other bottle. Painted red-white-black in zig-zag pattern. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a double-chambered globular body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 bridge handle extending between the necks, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled/molded bird sitting on top of one of the necks. The bodies are painted with a geometric zigzag design in white, black, red, and purple(?). The whole vessel has a red slip. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3281." |
