Double Vessel

Half of Double Vessel. Red ware. Decorated with two animal heads, handle and open vessel missing.

Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a double-chambered globular body, missing neck, missing rim, 1 bridge handle extending between the necks, and a flat base. The chamber is decorated with two animal heads protruding from the top of the chamber. The vessel appears to have originally had a red slip. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a scraped finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. All of the joins at the interior are visible through the hole in the vessel. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1597."
