Description | Hourglass type: La Kuude. Wood, painted black and red with traces of white; surface badly worn. Rectangular knob on side opposite loop handle. Carved decoration: wide band of narrow dentate bands around middle with border of looped lines; extending from this band in both directions on both the knob and the handle side is the carved neck and head of a bird (i.e. 4 bird heads); the central band may be a stylized representation of their bodies. Drumhead missing. |
