Description

Incasic flask with face on neck and arms in low relief on body

Face-neck narrow-necked jar/bottle (aríbalo, aryballos) with an ovate body, effigy-anthropomorphic and hyperboloid neck, unknown rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a conical (aribaloid) base. There is a molded face is present on the neck including eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, and ears. There are also arms in relief on the body. The body is painted on the arms and chest of the figure with red and black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2626."
