Description

Men's bark belt (agat). Double layered bark, stitched with cane using bone needle. Toggles each end for lashing belt together. These belts may be made from any of several kinds of bark. This one is from the Galip or Okari nut (probably Canarium sp). Worn with a seed dance rattle, for one particular dance (yok) which has been borrowed by Yonggom from the Awin people, to the east. The belts are usally discarded after use in a dance. made by Kerek, son of Dokyap, Meremko clan, Dome village. Purchased from maker 4/22/88.
