Description

Somewhat barrel shaped; face on neck; arms in low relief on body and notched loops extending from side of head to shoulder. painted.

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, missing neck, missing rim, no handles, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled/molded face on the neck and arms in relief on the body. There are stepped lugs on the sides of the neck. The vessel is painted with a band of double sided animal heads around the top half of the vessel in black, white, and red. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the base. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1019."
