Description | A long, single piece of wood used as a mat maker (fuem ngae ฟืมแหง่). It is in the new style and requires two people to use it. This utilizes a long length of Cyperus reed (kok กก) to make a mat. The reeds are typically grown for around 20 years before being used. Strings are run through the holes which are then raised and lowered so that a bamboo rod can thread the reeds through. This is then tamped down to create the mat. |
