Description | Large, cylindrical basket. Decorated with upper and lower bands of false embroidery in compound designs with faded, horizontal stripes running throughout in black. The designs segments are of tall "X" shapes, likely the "crossing" pattern, with vertically stacked triangles forming zigzag patterns at the edge of each segment. Segments are separated by a thick, vertical line. A central band of "winding" or "tying" patterns in light and dark false embroidery separates the upper and lower designs. Technical notes: twined, close twined, two-strand, in-between weave (with plain), three-strand, wrapped weft ("false embroidery"). 12 warps and 19 wefts per square inch. |
