Description | Three dimensional puppet with wooden torso, wooden head, wooden arms, articulated at shoulder and elbows, cotton skirt from waist down. Puppet is held and operated by a wooden stick which passes through a hole in the torso and into the base of the head and by sticks attached to the hands. Terracotta colored face and neck, torso and arms gold. Bulging almond shaped black eyes, hooked nose. Headdress with nine yellow points in band across brown, black projection at top back. Red and black ornaments at upper arms and wrists. Wrists flexed. Brown/purple/mustard striped band down sides of front and around back of neck. Beige and gold brocase sash. Batik skirt; black, cream, brown and a little blue. Lattice of brown wavy bands with cream dots, butterflies, etc in lozenges formed by the lattice. Unidentified male character, Mahabharata or Ramayana. |
