Description | Flattened bottom, Y-necked, bottle with connected curved handle and spout with monkey figure at angle of neck-handle. top of spout seems to be cut off, black Stirrup necked jug with a globular body, no neck/collar, missing rim, 1 stirrup handle on the body, and a rounded base. There is a modeled/molded monkey sitting on the join of the stirrup handle to the spout. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2796." |
