Description

Wood penis sheath (wabot). Soft wood (sp. [Yonggom] = bonme). Red seeds (sp. [Yonggom] = wurum) and feather from the sulphur-crested cockatoo attached to the tip. Waist string attached to base through four holes. Fancy bindings. Cassowary quill (?) wrapped around above the bindings and attached with sweat-bee wax. This type of sheath is usally colored bright orange with resin from the arok root. Worn on ceremonial occasions. Made by Nem Kowop, Meremko clan, Dome vilage. Purchased from maker 8/4/88. Made for collection.
