Description | Votive object representing "Sang Tong" (Prince of the Golden Conch). The folk tale is one of the 50 stories often considered as extra jatakas (Hasib Chat). The story recounts that one of the King's wives gives birth to a golden conch shell instead of a child. She is exiled to a peasant's life - must work in the fields - but always finds her hut neat and food prepared. She hides and sees a boy come out of the shell - she breaks the shell and the boy grows up to be a handsome prince. |
