Description

Black double vessel with face and hands on one vessel; bird ornamentation on dotted fields (poncho?)

Narrow necked whistling vessel with a double chambered lentoid body, missing neck, missing rim, 1 bridge handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a human head on top of one of the chambers and two raised arms on the shoulder of that chamber. Both chambers have raised decoration consisting of vertical bands, dots, and bird profiles. There is a whistle at the top of the human head where it joins to the handle. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3111."
