| Description | This iron alloy tusba depicts the "three friends in winter." On the face is bamboo, which springs back upright after the snow has melted; the reverse shows pine, which stays green in winter, and a plum tree, which blossoms while the snow still covers the ground. These trees are frequently used symbols of samurai bravery. In the style of Goto Ichiyo, very late nineteenth century. Inlay in silver and gold on iron. Snow indicated by golden flecks. Signed and inscribed. Very good. Holes for side daggers plugged, indicating this is for dress occasion. Engraving of katakiri style. Verse also engraved in free style caligraphy. |
