These trees are frequently used symbols of samurai bravery. In the style of Goto Ichiyo, very late nineteenth century. Inlay in silver and gold on iron. Snow indicated by golden flecks. Signed and inscribed. Very good. Holes for side daggers plugged, indicating this is for dress occasion. Engraving of katakiri style. Verse also engraved in free style caligraphy.
