Description

Red ware. Bottle neck with everted lip. Two vertical loop handles on body. With pattern of transformed birds or fishes. Painting in red-black-white.

Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with bands of geometric designs on the neck and shoulder. The central band on the body is The vessel is painted with animals in red, maroon, and black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange and gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes residue on the interior and black staining on the interior. There are black spots on the interior. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1855."
