Description | Cast bronze statue of Bala Krishna, child-god, kneeling on one knee and holding a butterball. Top-knot. Statue shows Vishnu in his incarnation as Krishna who grew up in Vrindavan (now Uttar Pradesh) in a caste of cow herders (copal). As a boy he was terribly mischievous and had a penchant for butter which he purloined when the women were not looking. He also performed many miracles in his youth which substantiated his divine status. This image shows Krishna with a butterball in his right hand, while his left hand caps the butter jar. |
