Description

Stemmed scraper (石匙). Thin elongated shape. Bifacially retouched near stem and at tip. Large chip in one edge. Stemmed scrapers were found throughout the Jomon period. 13161 is much more refined than the typical elongated stemmed scrapers common in Northern Japan and which are demonstrated in the collections by 29-183-2, 29-183-3, 29-183-10 and 29-183-12. It is much thinner, more finely retouched and of a different type of stone.
