Description

Made of very light-weight, pulpy sort of wood - Sago palm? Small area of the back is hollowed out. Face carved on rather sloping planes so it is more effective in profile. Eyes are large and round; center is black with red paint outside middle ring of natural color. Nose is long, but not beaked; nostrum may have been perforated (broken). Small mouth trimmed in red and black with pointed teeth and tongue indicated. Nostrils are painted black and outlined in red which continues around to enclose the face and follows a triangular ridge of a black area to indicate hair. Ears are small and high. White paint over other facial area. Top-knot is black at the base and is partly broken; a small seated figure painted red and black may have faced the rear.
