Description | Round bottom; high cylindrical neck, wide mouth. Painted red and black on white ground. Wide mouthed vessel with a globular body, hyperboloid collar, outward sloping rim, no handles, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with a band of geometric designs around the shoulder in orange, white, black, and red. There is another band of geometric design around the neck in white, and black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. There are striations on the interior surface from smoothing tool. Evidence of usewear includes residue/accretions on the bottom. There is a resinous accretion on the exterior of the body. The catalogue number is written on the interior of beck. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1657." |
