Description

Point. Obsidian flaked stone tool. Elongated triangular points with rounded end. Very small, thin and translucent throughout. This is an example of the flat narrow leaf-shaped bifacially retouched points. It is smaller and more finely retouched with a rounder base. These arrowheads have been found in excavated sites from the end of the Late Paleolithic up to the Yayoi periods and are found throughout Japan. For example, leaf-shaped points have been uncovered at Etchuyama, Yamagata Prefecture, Northern Honshu. This site is one of the earliest with this type of point and has been dated to c. 14,000 B.P. These arrowheads are part of a long-lasting and far-reaching technology in arrowhead production which began in the Late Paleolithic Period.
