Description | Plain, tapering body, wide cylindrical neck, and knob opposite shoulder. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has a knob on the shoulder opposite the handle. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior and a scraped finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. There is a porous area on the body of grayish green discoloration, possibly from overfiring. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom of base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1261-c." |
