Description

Plain. Red ware. Shouldered with vertical neck and two horizontal loop handles.

Cooking pot (olla) with a squat body, no neck/collar, rounded rim, 2 horizontal strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. There are no molded/modeled additions and no decoration. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the base. Evidence of usewear includes black staining on the interior. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3739."
